What do the pleasures (love, food) and challenges (betrayal) of life have in common? All these are as old as man and have attracted composers along the centuries to create music for stories which concern these themes. Malta's Most Famous Person (apart from Britney)
How to Get By in Malta15 May 2012 | 11:00 pmYes, Britney Spears has some sort of vague Maltese connection if you trace her family back far enough, but in all honesty it's a bit of a stretch to call her Maltese. Wikipedia says she is 'of distant Maltese and Sicilian descent' which doesn't sound like she has a Maltese flag for a duvet cover. Canadian sing-along merchant Bryan Adams has a Maltese grandmother, but that doesn't quite make it either. Besides, he's one of Canada's most famous musicians - they need him. Sharleen Spiteri... okay, for this list only people born in Malta are going to be considered. I…

Ta 'Qali Crafts Village
13 May 2012 | 4:02 amThis 'village' is located in the centre of Malta, on the site of an abandoned World War 2 airfield. The old Nissen huts have been converted into shops selling various bits and pieces. And that's the reason to come to the Crafts Village: to pick up souvenirs that you won't find anywhere else on the island and which are probably a little higher end in terms of quality. (Although there are some cheap and cheerful knock-off shops here too.) So this is the place for your jewellery, glassware, leather and linen needs. It's located in the same area as the National… -
Knights of Malta
9 May 2012 | 11:30 pm"Who exactly were these Knights of Malta? I think they're something to do with the Crusades, and you can pick up tiny knight statues in just about every tourist shop in the country, but where did the come from, and what were they doing here?" Available in a tourist shop near you. Luckily I know the answers to these questions, (at least in an approximate sort of a way), so as not to provide you with a very unsatisfying post. The original knights order (the Knights Hospitallers) was established about 1,000 years ago as defenders of pilgrims going to Jerusalem, and of Jerusalem… -
Bar Review: BARcelona (Paceville)
6 May 2012 | 11:40 pmFlashy but not too noisy, this is a chilled out lounge style bar in Paceville. You can try a refreshing alcoholic beverage here without getting blasted out of it by over-exuberant deejaying. It's a nice place to sit outside when the sun is shining, have a beer or a cocktail and maybe something to eat if you fancy it. The menu features a range of Spanish tapas' and there's also an extensive cocktail menu if you are so inclined. -
Dingli Cliffs
3 May 2012 | 2:29 pmAwesome. An overused word - yes, I'm looking at you Americans - but a fitting description in this instance. These cliffs are on the scenic western side of Malta - make sure to take your camera along with you when you visit. Once you've finished gaping at the amazing views and taking photos to impress your friends on facebook, you might feel like a cliff walk from Dingli to the Blue Grotto. Or if you are in a more relaxed frame of mind, bring a picnic along and a bottle of wine to enjoy with it as you take in the scenery. (Don't go too near the edge after you…
